My conclusion of the Spartacus arguing, was Kubrick was a staunch anti communist, and the Spartacus story had been co-opted by the communists/ leftists for years. Koestler, who wrote The Gladiator, had become staunchly anti communist and wrote his Spartacus story in answer to the communist co-opting. Of course Howard Fast and Dalton Trumbo where commies. Douglas was just a naive leftist.
